Everything that came out of the box.
The beta is not a demo with one screen wired up. It is the camera, the darkroom, the search, the streak and the friends-in-person part, all of it running on your phone.

Frame 01
A camera that shows you nothing.
Tap to focus, hold to lock it, drag the sun to set exposure. Grid, level, timer, flash. Volume buttons fire the shutter, and so does the Camera Control button. What you do not get is a preview.

Frame 02
The darkroom.
Finished rolls land here as canisters. Develop one and watch it come up — that is not a loading spinner, it is the process running on your phone at about a second a frame.

Frame 03
One film, and only one.
Stills 400: warm golden mids, honey highlights over a matte toe, an amber bloom around anything bright enough to earn it, and grain that is still there at thumbnail size. It is how the roll comes back.

Frame 04
Search that reads your own pictures.
Ask for “that night we walked home in the rain” and it finds them. The index is built by your phone, on your phone. Nothing is uploaded and nobody here could read your library if they wanted to.

Dailies.
One frame a day keeps a run going. The contact sheet shows the fortnight, the calendar shows the year, and your profile keeps the whole habit as a chart you can scrub through.

Frame 06
Presence.
Hold two phones together and you are friends. No usernames to guess, no requests from strangers. Frames pass straight between the two handsets and never touch a server.
The only film
Stills 400.
There is no switcher and no restock, because a disposable camera does not let you pick the film after you have shot the frame. One emulsion, applied as the roll develops on your phone in about a second a frame — not a filter you reach for afterwards.

Golden mids
Warm highlights and honey midtones over a matte toe. The colour comes from the curves, not a tint laid on top.

Halation on light
An amber bloom around anything bright enough to earn it, computed before the tone curve so it reads as emitted rather than smeared.

Grain you can see
Two octaves of it, weighted to the midtones and fading out of the highlights, so it is still there at thumbnail size.
Backups live in Settings, under Account & data. One file, encrypted to your account, yours to keep wherever you like.
02 / Getting in
Three taps and a roll of twelve.
Step two
Sign in, pick a handle.
About ten seconds with Sign in with Apple. It exists so friends you meet in person can find your profile, and so a backup belongs to you rather than to whoever has the file.
Step three
Shoot it blind.
Load twelve frames and go and use them. The roll seals when the counter hits zero, develops in the darkroom, and then you find out.
Beta builds are pre-release software. Take a backup before you install one, and treat it as something to test rather than something to depend on.
03 / Known and deliberate
Two things
are on purpose.
Rolls is locked.
It is where a roll becomes an album you can name and shoot into with a friend. It works — it is just not stable enough to hand over yet. The screen says so when you tap it, and nothing is waiting behind it: every frame you shoot is safe in Memories either way.
Presence has no messaging.
You can add people in person and see their profile. That is the whole of it for now. A word attached to a frame is one of the next things in.
Everything else is ready to be tested properly. If something in the darkroom feels wrong, that is exactly the sort of thing worth sending — support takes it straight to the person who wrote it.
